Trump Demands $20 Billion in Damages from CBS Over ’60 Minutes’ Kamala Harris Interview Editing
President Donald Trump Takes Legal Action Against CBS, Seeks $20 Billion in Compensation for ‘Misleading Editing’ of Kamala Harris Interview
President Donald Trump has filed a legal complaint demanding $20 billion in compensation from CBS following what he claims was misleading editing of an interview with former U.S. Vice President candidate Kamala Harris on the network’s program 60 Minutes.
According to a report by Variety, Trump has doubled the amount he initially sought, now demanding $20 billion in damages due to the edited interview. The lawsuit was updated on Friday, increasing the claim against the network for what Trump describes as deceptive editing of Harris’ response about the war in Gaza.
Trump previously filed a lawsuit against CBS in October, alleging that 60 Minutes violated consumer fraud laws in Texas by editing Harris’ response. CBS has sought to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing that editorial decisions are protected under the First Amendment.
In the updated complaint, Trump claims that he was harmed as a competitor in the media industry and has suffered significant damage, with the exact amount to be determined in court. The lawsuit asserts that the editing of the 60 Minutes interview misled viewers, directing them to other media platforms owned by the defendants, causing a decline in consumer engagement, advertising revenues, and profits for Trump’s Truth Social platform and other media ventures.
Earlier this week, CBS released the full transcript and video of Harris’ interview in response to a request from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The transcript reveals that CBS used only a portion of Harris’ response.
