“Los Angeles Lakers Postpone Game Due to Devastating Wildfires”
Lakers and Kings Games Postponed Amid Ongoing Wildfires in Los Angeles
Los Angeles – (AFP) – The Los Angeles Lakers postponed their game against the Charlotte Hornets, originally scheduled for Thursday, due to the raging wildfires in Los Angeles that have been burning since Tuesday, as announced by the Lakers, who are currently in sixth place in the NBA Western Conference.
The Lakers stated in a press release: “Our hearts are broken for Los Angeles. Our thoughts are with those affected by this unimaginable situation… The game tonight will be rescheduled to focus on what is more important today,” without providing a new date for the match.
The Lakers, led by “King” LeBron James, are set to face the San Antonio Spurs and their rising star Frenchman Victor Wembanyama at home on Saturday and then again on Monday. They are also scheduled to visit Miami on Wednesday and host the Brooklyn Nets on January 17.
Currently, the Lakers hold the sixth spot in the West with a record of 20 wins and 16 losses, while the Hornets sit in 13th place in the East with a record of 8-27.
The NBA said in a statement: “The entire NBA family expresses its support for the Los Angeles community during these difficult times.”
It added: “We are grateful to the thousands of local firefighters and first responders who have shown tremendous courage. Our thoughts remain with those affected by the unimaginable devastation caused by the wildfires.”
Additionally, the Los Angeles Kings hockey game, which shares the same arena with the Lakers, was also postponed, as it was set for Wednesday.
At least five people have lost their lives in the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles since Tuesday, which have been fueled by strong winds, forcing tens of thousands of residents to flee and destroying many buildings.
